Above Lake Caldaro, in the municipality of Vadena, the ruins of Leuchtenburg Castle tower into the sky. The castle was built around 1200 by the lords of Rottenburg. Due to its location, the fortress was always well protected from attack. The masonry was preserved in the 20th century. There are still well-preserved remains of frescoes from the 15th century in the ruins.
